Why this is not a detail.An authority file is precisely the instrument libraries use to separate sameness of name from sameness of person. With no entry there is no identifier distinguishing this Pierre Stephan from the French natural scientist of the same name whom the GND has held for years (IDN 1042918821, born 1980). That confusion is exactly why this network argues from ISRC numbers rather than from names. New person records are created editorially within the GND cooperative, not through an open self-application form. The sound next step is to contact the GND central office with the catalogue records, both name forms, occupation and place of activity; the responsible editorial office decides whether to establish a record.

The two name forms

Decided on 2026-08-05. The German National Library uses “Pierre (Bob) Stephan” throughout its title catalogue; the artist’s own platform account reads “Pierre Stephan”, while the biography on that same account gives the longer form. The owner has confirmed that both denote the same person. The catalogue form remains the preferred public name; the shorter one is carried as alternateName. There will only be a preferred GND name once a person authority record exists.

One thing is expressly not settled by that: which third-party accounts belong to this person. Each profile is a claim of its own, and each is tested on its own. Only accounts passing one of two tests are emitted as sameAs — the same recording identifier as the catalogue, or a link back to the operator’s own legal notice. The professional networks findable under the same name are left out — two different LinkedIn profiles carry this spelling, which shows directly that a matching name also locates other people. Spotify is left out too: the titles match, but without an access key the platform releases no recording identifier, and matching titles prove nothing.
